Belle, what led you to become a model? Did you look up to any fashion icon or supermodel?
My older sister was signed to a modelling agency before me, and when I got scouted, I didn’t hesitate to say yes. I wanted to do everything she did — typical younger sibling behaviour. But I’ve always been fascinated by fashion and modelling. I had a huge photo of Kate Moss by Alasdair McLellan in my room when I was 12 years old. Her work has always inspired me!

Being a Swedish model, do you feel like your background has influenced your style?
Yes, for sure. I don’t really have the typical “Scandi-girl style,” but I do dress quite minimalistically. I think Swedes, in general, are very minimalistic. I love a total black outfit — always a pair of boots, a leather or faux fur jacket, and a lot of silver jewellery. That’s definitely my go-to look! Maybe that’s not minimalistic for some people, though (Laughs, E.D.)! I guess, it depends on who you ask!

You’ve been on the catwalk for various designers, including the Fashion East collective. Can you take us back to your first runway show? How did you feel?
I think my first ever show was actually for Fashion East! I don’t tend to get nervous, but I do remember being pretty nervous about being the only model in a little bikini and bright pink Uggs (Laughs, E.D.)! I felt very outside my comfort zone, but in a good and exciting way. I just had to step into character and pretend it was my everyday outfit. It was such a fun day — I really enjoyed every second of it!

There’s a strong sense of elegance and subtle emotion in your photos. Is there a particular mindset or inspiration you tap into before a shoot?
I love seeing a mood board before a shoot — it definitely helps me tap into the vibe and understand the storyline better. Music also plays a huge role for me. I usually make a playlist with a few songs that match the aesthetic for the brand or mood board, and then I listen to it on my way to work. That’s helped me so much! For this shoot, my main song was ‘‘Leaving by Pet Shop Boys!

Modelling often takes you to new environments and challenges. How do you keep your personal identity intact while embodying different visions on set?
I love transforming into different characters on set. It’s helped me feel more secure and content within myself by exploring different styles and attitudes. But I like to think that I don’t turn into someone else; rather, I turn into an alter ego, an extended version of myself on set.

The fashion industry is evolving constantly. What changes do you hope to see in the modelling world moving forward?
Of course, inclusivity in all shapes and forms! I’d also love to see more models speaking about their perspectives on being part of the creative process that comes with modelling. Like in this interview, I feel so grateful for the opportunity! Models are much more than just a pretty face. Some of the most interesting and meaningful conversations I’ve had, have been with other models!

Looking through your portfolio, there’s a sense of grace and poise in every shot. How important is body language in your work, and how do you use it to communicate with the camera?
Body language plays a huge role — often, it speaks louder than words. I like to work with minimal motion to create maximum emotion. I move quite slowly while shooting, and step by step, I try to find the right attitude for the picture.

Is there a designer, photographer, or creative team you’ve always wanted to work with?
Absolutely, so many! Shooting with Steven Meisel would be a dream come true. I’ve always admired his work — he’s truly a genius in photography. I love how he challenges the viewer to think outside the frame. He’s a real provocateur, no one does it like Steven Meisel!

Outside of modelling, are there any hobbies or passions that help you stay inspired in your career?
I’ve been horse riding since I was six years old, and I still do. The stables have always been my safe space and second home. When I’m around horses, I feel like my most authentic self, and it helps keep me grounded. I also think my work ethic comes from growing up around horses — it taught me to always be punctual, structured, disciplined, and unafraid of hard work.

Lastly, if you could describe your career in one word, what would it be, and why?
I really had to think about this, but I’d choose the word ‘grateful’. It may sound cliché, but I’m truly grateful for every experience and job I’ve done. There’s something empowering about photographers, stylists, casting directors, agents, and brands putting their trust in you to bring their creative vision to life — and for that, I’m eternally grateful!
